Welcoming Ulata Hurt as Centre Manager – and Celebrating a New Chapter for GLCC

Today marks an exciting milestone for Grey Lynn Community Centre (GLCC) | Te Whare Hapori o Grey Lynn.

We are delighted to announce that Ulata Hurt joins GLCC as our new Centre Manager – Grey Lynn, effective 18 May 2026. And in a move that reflects the growing ambition and capacity of our organisation, David Williams steps into the newly created position of Manager, Community Places & Partnerships.

A new leadership team for a growing organisation

This isn't just a change in personnel — it's a deliberate and forward-looking evolution in how GLCC is structured to serve our community.

As Centre Manager, Ulata will lead the day-to-day operations of the centre, ensuring GLCC continues to be a welcoming, inclusive, and well-run hub for everyone in Grey Lynn and beyond. Ulata's deep commitment to community, her grounding in the values of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga, and her passion for people make her a wonderful fit for who we are and what we stand for.

David's new role as Manager, Community Places & Partnerships allows him to bring his years of knowledge, experience, and community relationships to bear in a strategic way — focusing on building connections, fostering partnerships, and expanding the reach of GLCC across Tāmaki Makaurau.

What this means for our community

Our vision has always been clear: a connected and resilient community where diversity thrives, and individuals flourish, through inclusive programmes and sustainable practices.

This new structure gives us the foundations to pursue that vision with even greater focus. With Ulata leading our centre operations and David strengthening our community partnerships, we are better positioned than ever to:

  • Connect and support the diverse communities of Grey Lynn

  • Build resilience through sustainable practice

  • Facilitate a wider range of programmes for wellbeing

  • Grow our network of community places and relationships

A word from the Chair

"We are thrilled to welcome Ulata into the Centre Manager role. Her energy, community-centred values, and commitment to whanaungatanga align perfectly with who we are at GLCC. At the same time, we are incredibly excited to see David bring his deep knowledge and relationships to bear in his new strategic role. Together, this leadership team will help us build a more connected, resilient, and thriving community hub — and we can't wait to see what the future holds."

— Christopher Nolan-Downs, Chairperson, GLCC Board of TrusteesJoin us in celebrating

Please join the GLCC Board and team in warmly welcoming Ulata to her new role, and in congratulating David on this exciting next step in his journey with GLCC.

We are grateful for the continued support of our community — the people, organisations, and partners who make Grey Lynn Community Centre what it is every single day.
