Support Abilities Group – Help Rebuild and Renew

At Grey Lynn Community Centre, we are proud to partner with Abilities Group, a non-profit organisation that makes an incredible impact through their services, including eWaste recycling, Soft Plastic Recycling, and more. They are a cornerstone of inclusive employment, providing meaningful work opportunities for people with disabilities and those facing barriers to employment.

Recently, Abilities Group faced a devastating blow. A massive fire broke out at their North Shore recycling plant, leaving a worker shaken and causing extensive damage to their operations. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but the impact on their ability to continue their essential work has been profound.

As reported by RNZ, the fire has left Abilities Group urgently seeking community support to recover and rebuild. Their commitment to sustainability and inclusive employment has never been more critical, and now, they need our help more than ever.

Why Abilities Group Matters

Abilities Group isn't just another recycling service. They are a social enterprise with a mission: to empower people through employment while supporting environmental sustainability. Every piece of eWaste and soft plastic you drop off for recycling contributes not just to a cleaner planet, but to creating real opportunities for people who might otherwise be left behind.

  • eWaste Recycling: Safe, responsible recycling of electronic waste, keeping toxic materials out of landfills.

  • Soft Plastics Recycling: Turning everyday packaging waste into useful products instead of pollution.

  • Inclusive Employment: Providing supported, respectful jobs for people with disabilities.

Our partnership with Abilities Group allows us to extend these services to our community — but today, they need a lifeline.
